Docklands plan adding to Limerick regeneration jigsaw

-

A MULTI million euro strategy to transform the Limerick Docklands is another significant piece of the Limerick regeneration jigsaw falling in to place.

That is according to Mayor of Limerick City and County cllr Stephen Keary who was commenting after Shannon Foynes Port Company’s unveiled its framework strategy to transform the Limerick Docklands estate.

Mayor Keary said the strategy to maximise the Limerick Docklands estate has the capacity to deliver enormous dividends for the city, county and wider region.

“This is another very significant piece of the Limerick jigsaw falling into place.  Between the planned redevelopment of the Docklands area unveiled today through the Limerick Docklands Economic Park, what we have seen already from Limerick City and County Council, Limerick Twenty Thirty, our third level sector, Shannon Group and others, there’s a lot of reasons to believe that the huge ground made by Limerick over recent years is just the beginning and we will be reaping dividends of this long into the future.”

“Our docklands area is a stand-out opportunity in a national context.  It runs from the city centre right out to within a half mile of the motorway and has, of course, a very successful port as well.”

“That is an unrivalled mix nationally and, together, these elements offer huge opportunity for inward investment.  What’s very encouraging also is SFPC’s track record of delivery. Since the launch of its masterplan, Vision 2041 in 2013, it has met all of its targets and that suggests this plan will move from strategy to implementation very quickly.”

Dr Pat Daly, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Economic Development with Limerick City and County Council said: “This is another very positive day for the city. The Limerick Docklands area is integral to this city and while the port company remains dedicated to growing commercial port activity there into the future, it is now also setting its sights on maximising other assets that are not part of its core activity. This is effectively 75 acres of development potential just off the heart of Limerick City, a huge opportunity for Limerick and the wider region.”

“We look forward to working closely with Pat Keating and his team to make sure the spirit of collaboration that typifies Limerick today is maintained and that the local authority plays a role in delivering on the enormous potential of the Docklands estate.”
