Work to commence on new St Paul’s project

Cllr James Collins

FIANNA Fáil councillor James Collins has welcomed news that local Limerick firm Conack Construction have been chosen for the construction contract at St Paul’s National School in Dooraodyle.

“St Paul’s has been waiting for this school project for many years now. I have been informed that construction contractors will commence on site from April 9. This is expected to be a 16-month contract with pupils returning to Dooradoyle in September 2019,” Cllr Collins told the Limerick Post.

St Paul’s NS pupils will continue to be temporarily relocated in Scoil Carmel on O’Connell Avenue until works are completed.

The €6.1m plus vat project will see the provision of 12 new classrooms, ancillary rooms, a new hall, a new library and an administration block.

“This project is well overdue but very welcome. We all look forward to pupils, parents and teachers enjoying the new facilities from September 2019. It is also great to see a local Limerick firm Conack Construction awarded the contract.

“I hope many local subcontractors and tradesmen will be employed on site,” the City West representative commented.

Cllr Collins also said he will be liaising with the delivery team to ensure nearby residents are not unduly impacted during construction and operation.

“St Paul’s will continue to support the parish by providing parking for the church. A new road structure and traffic system will be in operation and we hope this will impact in a positive way in the surrounding area. Historically the school had facilitated various community groups and will continue to do so. It is an exciting time for St Paul’s NS and for the community of Dooradoyle, as this long awaited project begins,” he concluded.
