Garda investigate assault and brazen handbag snatch

The woman had her handbag snatched while she sat outside a coffee shop

GARDAI are investigating two incidents in Limerick city where a young man was assaulted and woman had her handbag stolen.

Last Thursday, a 20-year-old man was walking along Upper Denmark when he was assaulted by another male at around 10pm.

A garda spokesperson said that as this is a busy area there would be a lot of people about  at night time so Gardai at Henry Street are asking anybody who was in the area at that time and saw the assault to please contact them on 061 212400.

Separately, a lady who was sitting in a coffee shop on Saturday evening was the victim of a handbag snatch. She had placed her bag at her feet as she sat outside enjoying a coffee. However, unbeknownst to her, when she went to get her bag it had been taken.

Sergeant Ber Leetch of the Crime Prevention Unit advised that “when you’re out and about you must be aware of where your handbag is at all times. Keep it on your lap or wear a cross body bag and continue to keep it across you when you’re seated. These thieves are very fast and don’t draw attention to themselves so it’s very important that you protect your property.”
