With the celebration of Bliain na Gaeilge, Camara Ireland is, in association with the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and TG4 organising the first TechFéile event, a TechSpace Programme celebrating event on Friday 27 April 2018.
The event is taking place in the Limerick School of Art & Design with the aim of encouraging creativity and technology among young Gaeltacht students and of Gaelscoileanna.
Technological surprises on the day include the work of young people in the movie and STEM in the spot light! With the best of workshops, magical music and invited guest speakers, imagination will be inspired and fun will be had at this exciting event!
Arising from the slogan, Imagine – Create – Encourage, TechFéile will have a strong emphasis on stimulating imagination and giving insight into the technology tools available to support the creativity. 200 students from Gaeltacht and Gaelscoileanna schools who are part of the TechSpace programme are expected to attend.
On the day, the emphasis will be put on the platform and recognition of the creative work of young people taking part at the heart of the event. The work of young people from the Provinces of Connacht and Munster participating in the TechSpace Programme will be exhibited.
The event will be hosted by Mícheál Ó Ciaraidh from TG4 and Anna Kinsella, a school student from Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh and Caitlín Nic Aoidh will record items from the event for TG4 Social Media. Evelyn Ní Ghriallais from Coláiste na bPiarsach, Ros Muc will be on Snapchat for the day.
Among the guests on the day, Kíla and Togra, a band from Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne, will be playing.
Workshops will take place from a variety of topics in the media of communications and technology; including Weather Workshops, Nemeton Sports Commentary, Acting with Fíbín; and Social Media, Circuits, Holograms and Computer Games. First class exhibitions will also be available and the opportunity for young people to try VR and Oculus Rift as well as 3D printing, a Limerick School of Art and Design exhibition.

Alan Esslemont, Director General of TG4 says that supporting the development of new talent and stimulating creativity in youth is an integral part of the TG4 strategy. TechSpace is a fantastic project that supports creativity skills, and developing communication with the young. Knowing that some of these who are taking part today will develop future proposals for TG4.
Minister of State for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, Joe McHugh, T.D. stated: ‘I am very proud of this event, TechFéile 2018, which is being funded by my Department for the first time this year. TechFéile 2018 has a great deal of importance and is a great opportunity in the way that the proposal allows young people to develop their imagination and creativity and to put the Irish language on display. Technology has a great deal of power in our everyday lives and this demonstrates the interest of teenagers in technology and they are very comfortable in the digital era in which we live today. So I am delighted that this proposal is having a huge impact on young people and putting the Irish language on an equal footing with English.
