HAVING lost in the final of the competition two years ago, Pike Rovers will be hoping to go one better at the Aviva Stadium this Saturday when they partake in their second FAI Junior Cup decider since 2016.

Mike Shiel, who led the Hoops to their previous final when they were narrowly beaten by Sheriff YC, is aiming to get the better of North End United from Wexford at the national stadium on Saturday, with kick-off at 2pm.

Pike reached the decider last month courtesy of a dramatic 3-2 victory over Newmarket Celtic, when Cian Power’s goal in extra time saw them overcome a stern challenge from the Clare outfit.

The Hoops also defeated Shannon Town, Dungarvan FC, Regional United, Kilfrush Crusaders, Carew Park and Charleville in previous rounds and are bidding for their second FAI Junior Cup triumph in their fourth final, seeking to add to their 2011 success in the competition. Their opponents are striving for their first Junior Cup title.

Due to Pike’s involvement in the Aviva Stadium showpiece, Limerick FC’s home game against St Patrick’s Athletic has been brought forward to this Friday evening, with a 7:45pm kick-off at Markets Field.
