ST MARY’S Cathedral is top venue for international tenor Paul McNamara’s first concert in Limerick in seven years. Attend to his eclectic programme this Friday 22 at 8pm. The music, he says,  has “strong Irish connections including songs by Thomas Moore, CV Stanford, Hamilton Harty as well as repertoire by Richard Strauss, Hindemith and Toscanini.”

Based in Berlin, Paul McNamara is regarded as one of the most versatile dramatic tenors of his generation. Case in point, his current tour is with the opera ‘Nixon in China’. Heading home to Limerick is his chance to connect with  family and reconnect with his original audience.

He was successful in his recent Venice debut as La Fenice in Wagner’s ‘Tannhauser’ and was acclaimed for his North American debut with the American Symphony Orchestra, performing in Max von Schillings’ opera ‘Mona’. Inter alia he has worked in many of Europe’s great concert houses.

A rare evening to hear this fine voice in song, with guests Ancór Chamber Choir and Siúlóid Vocal Octet. Chamber musician Philip Mayers accompanies on piano.
