Double stabbing suspect arrested

GARDAI in Limerick have arrested a man in his 20s in connection with a double stabbing incident on the Northside of the city where one of the victims was stabbed in the head.

The arrest comes as a garda investigation continues into the incident during the early hours of Monday morning where two young men were involved in an attack which has left them both in Cork University Hospital.

The two victims, aged 22 and 23, suffered stab wounds at Woodbine Avenue, Caherdavin, at around 3am on Monday morning. The incident happened near a green area between Christ The King Church and the Caherdavin Community Centre. 

This Thursday, a man in his 20s was arrested and is currently detained at Henry Street Garda Station.

After a 999 call, the two men were initially treated at the scene and University Hospital Limerick but were later transferred to Cork University Hospital for further treatment

Gardai say that the 22-year-old male suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and was released from hospital on Wednesday but the 23-year-old male, who was stabbed in the head during the incident, remains in hospital. 

His condition is described as serious and life-threatening.

As the investigation continues, a technical examination of the area was completed and Garda forensic teams are assisting detectives from Henry Street.

Separately, the investigation into an assault at the North Star bar in Thomondgate continues.

Last Tuesday night, a man in his 30s suffered non-life-threatening stab injuries, but no arrests have been made.
