The Hitchers feature on new Steve Lamacq (BBC) album

BBC Radio DJ Steve Lamacq will include the track ‘Strachan’ by Limerick band The Hitchers on his new compilation album ‘Steve Lamacq’s Lost 90s’.

The track is a favourite of the BBC Radio DJ hosting one of the most influential shows in indie music in the UK. The 1997 track also featured in the late John Peel’s end of year poll in 1997. The ‘Strachan/You Can Only Love Someone’ double a-side single won many more friends, plaudits and award nominations (pipped to the Best Irish Single gong by Ash’s A Life Less ordinary at The Hot Press Magazine Awards).
Media interest in the band and the track ‘Strachan’ is rekindled biennially around the time of World Cups and European Championships which led to Guardian Newspaper readers voting ‘Strachan’ the ‘greatest football song EVER’.

Lamacq has included ‘Strachan’ on a 2xLP/4xCD collection marking his 25th year on the airwaves presenting the UK’s most influential indie show at the BBC.
On the album due out on Demon Music this month, the Limerick band will rub shoulders with amongst others, Teenage Fanclub, Crass, Sleeper, Travis, Compulsion, Cornershop, China Drum, Pale Saints, Suede, Elastica and fellow Irish band Whipping Boy.

The Hitchers to play three Irish shows this November, Galway, Róisín Dubh on Thursday 15, Cork, Fred Zepplins, Friday 16 and Limerick, Dolan’s on Saturday November 17.

Strachan is now available on 33rpm 7” vinyl from thehitchers.bandcamp.com and record stores.
