Man in serious condition following Limerick stabbing

A STABBING incident at a Limerick housing estate is under investigation this Thursday morning as a man in his 20s recovers in hospital with serious injuries.

Gardai were called to an estate on the Fr Russell Road area of Limerick in the early hours of this Thursday morning.

It is understood that a man in his late teens or early 20s was the victim of a serious assault and received a number of injuries including a stab wound to the back.

The man was initially treated at the scene before being brought to University Hospital Limerick where his condition is understood to be serious but stable.

An extensive Garda presence is in the area as forensic investigators cordon off several areas of the Fr Russell Road where the incident is believed to have unfolded.

Gardai, who are now beginning an investigation including gathering CCTV from the area, are appealing to witnesses to come forward and contact them at Roxboro Garda Station on 061 214 340 if they saw anything of the incident or if they noticed any suspicious activity in the area on Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
