METAL bands Behemoth and Amon Amarth rocked King John’s Castle on Monday night June 17 in front of a huge crowd who were treated to loud and epic shows played in a positive, party atmosphere in the setting sun over the Shannon.

Swedish metal band Amon Amarth walked onstage at the ancient Viking site at King John’s Castle to reclaim Limerick for just one night to party with us. And that’s exactly what Limerick got. Pyrotechnics, smoke, Viking warriors doing battle on stage and a tribal and rousing metal show, playing tracks from new record ‘Berserker’ and big hands-in-the-air anthems ‘Twilight of the Thunder God’ and ‘Raise Your Horns’.

Black metallers Behemoth are touring their record ‘I Loved You At Your Darkest’. Vocalist/ guitarist Adam Nergal Darski stopped the concert briefly to address the huge crowd on recent attempts to have the band’s Limerick concert banned.

“Can anything, any court, any authority, any religion, any poison, stop free-thinking music worshipping people? “No?

“Raise your finger and say ‘f*ck, no’.”
