AUSTRIAN airline, Lauda hasย announced a new Shannon route to Vienna, with a twice-weekly service commencing in March 2020, as part of Ryanairโ€™s extended Shannon Summer 2020 schedule.

Shannon consumers and visitors can now book their summer holidays to Vienna as far out as October 2020, flying on the lowest fares and with the greenest/cleanest airline group in Europe, with the lowest CO2 emissions.

Vienna was voted the most livable city on the planet for the tenth time. Thereโ€™s no better time of the year to discover Viennaโ€™s world-renowned art, culture and culinary delights than in Summer. Visit the Schรถnbrunn Palace, St. Stephenโ€™s Cathedral or one of the numerous exhibitions by national and international artists.

The announcement will see the first scheduled Vienna service ever at Shannon and the first time that Lauda will have operated at Shannon. Flights will run twice weekly from the end of March 2020 on Wednesdayโ€™s and Saturdayโ€™s.

โ€œThis is very positive news for Shannon as not alone do we get a scheduled service to one of Europeโ€™s most visited cities and a strong inbound market for tourists to Ireland, but we are also getting a new carrier on the runway here as well. We have been working closely with Lauda and their parent Ryanair, to deliver this service and are looking forward to the airline commencing operation in the New Year,โ€ said Andrew Murphy, Managing Director, Shannon Airport, a Shannon Group company.

โ€œThis will be the first summer service connecting Austrian holidaymakers directly to the Wild Atlantic Way, and as such provides an opportunity to attract more visitors to this breathtakingly beautiful part of Ireland,โ€ he said.

Laudaโ€™s CEO, Andreas Gruber said: โ€œLauda is pleased to launch a new Shannon route to Vienna, commencing in March, which will operate twice weekly as part of our summer 2020 schedule. Commenting on the significance of the new service for Shannon, Mr. Murphy said: โ€œThe decision by Lauda is a vote of confidence in the region by the airline and will deepen Shannonโ€™s impact on tourism in the region. We are delighted to have Vienna on our summer schedule for 2020, a service that will boost business for our tourism industry along the Wild Atlantic Way. The new Shannon service has been secured with the assistance of Tourism Ireland and the increased route development fund for regional airports announced in Budget 2020 is a significant factor.

Commenting on the announcement, Brendan Griffin TD, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport said: โ€œI am very pleased with this announcement today and it is great to see that regions are already seeing dividends from the Governmentโ€™s decision to increase marketing funds for regional airports.โ€
