A GROUP of students from Colaiste Nano Nagle in Limerick City have been recognised for their work in producing a video explaining the operations of the child and family agency, Tusla.

The result of nine months of creative effort, ‘Commissioning, the Tusla Way’ outlines the process in a simple and accessible way for children, young people and adults.

The design, script and voice-over for the video were developed by Diane Aron, Jasmine Dillon, Lauren Kelly, Amanda Makulena and Buki Adejomehin.

An earlier stage of the project involved 26 children and young people from a range of local organisations whose work was supported by Tusla and Jigsaw Limerick.

The launch in King John’s Castle, was organised by the five film-makers themselves and attended by children and families, as well as representatives from Barnardos, Colaiste Nano Nagle, Limerick Youth Service, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, Jigsaw, and Tusla.

Guest speakers included Dr Caroline Cullen, Mid West Area Manager and Eifion Williams, Service Director for Commissioning with Tusla.

Dr Cullen said that in order for children and young people to have a voice in issues that affect them, they need to be provided with appropriate information and to be facilitated to give their views.

“This project is a wonderful example of how young people can participate and impact on decisions and processes that affect their lives. We are grateful for the time and that these young people invested in this project,” she added.

The students from Colaiste Nano Nagle received an Investing in Children award which recognises and celebrates examples of imaginative and inclusive practice.
