NEW MUSIC: 60’s influenced EP from Hey Rusty

HEY Rusty is the songwriting project of Limerick musician John Ahern. The singer/songwriter has picked up very good reviews for his early work on the Bedroom Recordings EP and the wonderful Ladies Lane EP (2019).
The music has light touch lo-fi acoustic guitar and Ahern’s talent for finding hooks and melodies that linger long after the songs fade.

The new EP takes the project forward to a full band format. Produced by Mícheál Keating (Bleeding Heart Pigeons) in his studio in West Limerick and featuring Post Punk Podge on strings All Night Daylight/ Since We Were Strangers embraces elements of 1960s Wall of Sound pop complete with classic Spector drum intro.

John Ahern offered a little background on the songs.
“Both songs are love songs, sort of. All Night Daylight deals in melodramatic forlorn angst, whereas the narrator in Since We Were Strangers is grappling more with the emotional plateau of a long-term relationship.”

The video for All Night Daylight was made by Graham Patterson. It features a star turn from Marty Ryan (Anna’s Anchor) as a Father Trendy character presenting a documentary from West Limerick in the 1960’s.

A remarkable talent, we suggest you see Hey Rusty live when regular programming returns.
