FREE on-street parking in Limerick city centre on Saturdays during July and August is one of a range of measures introduced by the City and County Council to help the post-Covid lockdown recovery.

Parking will also be free on Saturdays in Abbeyfeale and Kilmallock, while Newcastle West has always had free parking on Saturdays.

The free parking initiative is part of the ‘Guiding Limerick Through Covid-19′ programme to boost visitors to the city and county.

Other measures include the suspension of all fees for on-street tables and chairs to allow businesses cater for additional customers while maintaining social distancing.

Work has also begun on the construction of parklets/build-outs on O’Connell Street between the Thomas Street and Roches Street junctions. There will be a schedule of selected road closures as well as the provision of additional cycle lanes and the return of the
panoramic wheel to Arthur’s Quay Park, giving unparalleled views of the city.

The council has also put a call out to local artists, groups and creatives to get on board and propose new events around the city and county, to be funded by the local authority.
