Smarter Travel Campus Awards – Limerick Students win multiple national awards

Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD).

STUDENTS from third level colleges around the country were awarded for running events, developing and designing marketing and engineering projects and creating videos, animations, radio ads and graphics for the National Transport Authority’s Smarter Travel Campus Awards 2020.

The entries produced by students, promote ‘smarter’ modes of transport; particularly walking, cycling, public transport and carpooling.

The awards were run virtually this year and MC’d by Tara Stewart. “I really enjoyed being able to present the Smarter Travel Campus Awards for 2020! All the winners and finalists were so creative and inspiring. I know the future of eco-friendly travel is in awesome hands.” Tara Stewart, RTE 2FM.

“In spite of the colleges closing just before the submission date, we received a huge number of fantastic entries across the disciplines. We are delighted with the quality of entries again this year. Congratulations to all students and lecturers who made the extra effort to take part. The winners of the Engineering & Innovation – Design (postgraduate) category were James Woods, Enes Gahbiche, Julie Agostini & Leow Ee Hui, University College Dublin. Georgia Markham, Evan Lowry & Fredo Eyong, Institute of Technology Carlow were the winning undergraduate entry in this category.

The award for the best Engineering & Innovation – Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship Design went to Heng Si Hwa, Benoit Souillard, Vincent Singling & Léna Jaillet, University College Dublin. Students Cian Kellett, Eoin Burke, Damien Deasy & Adhriaj Sood, Trinity College Dublin won the award in the Engineering & Innovation – Technology category.

The winners in the Marketing category were Laura Moloney, Lisa Preus, Helena Bijl & Zoe Lieux, Tralee Institute of Technology and students Roisin Dowling, Niamh Atkinson & Jennifer O’Dwyer, Institute of Technology Carlow won the top prize in the Digital Marketing Category.

Students Kyle Dee, Eoin Melia, Nicole Devennie & Jack Conroy from Limerick Institute of Technology picked up the top prize for their Audio and Orla McNamee from Cork Institute of Technology was the winner in the animation category.

Students Patrick Szoltysek, Marta Di Giovanni & Darek Kozdroj, also from Limerick Institute of Technology, won the best Video category.

The Graphic & Illustration category winner was Jack Carroll, Limerick Institute of Technology.

Lecturers were also awarded for bringing projects to promote smarter modes of transport
into their graded coursework. Winners of the Lecturers Award 2020 were Paraic Carroll, University College Dublin (Engineering), Sarah Arnold, Maynooth University & Nora Ni Fhlatharta, Limerick Institute of Technology (Multimedia) and Dorothy Keane, Institute of Technology Carlow (Marketing).

The Smarter Travel Campus Awards are organised by the Smarter Travel Campus programme of the National Transport Authority. This was the sixth year of the awards. It was open to third level institutions in Ireland who are partners of the Smarter Travel Campus programme.
