Kiely “It goes without saying that this is a huge challenge for us on Sunday”

LIMERICK manager John Kiely has been impressed by what he has seen from Sunday’s opponents since Shane O’Neill took over the Tribesmen this season.

Galway beat Tipperary in a thrilling quarter-final at the LIT Gaelic Grounds last weekend and will come into Sunday’s clash at Croke Park full of confidence.

“They played really, really well (against Tipperary). They controlled the game for long spells and got some great goals.

“They showed a lot of composure and experience in that last quarter in terms of seeing the game out.

O’Neill’s involvement with Galway adds an interesting sub plot to the game given his history of being a Limerick player and of course his successful spell in charge of Na Piarsaigh.

However, Kiely is playing down the potential influence that the Galway manager’s knowledge of the Treaty panel will play on the game.

“Shane would have worked very closely with the Na Piarsaigh lads but likewise, our lads worked very closely with Shane during that period of time as well. I think one trades off the other.”
