Ireland World Cup Qualifying Dates Finalised

THE Republic of Ireland were drawn in Group A for qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on Monday. They joined Euro 2016 champions Portugal, Serbia, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan.

There is a congested international football calendar next year with Euro 2020 due to take place next summer due to last year’s cancellation. The World Cup in Qatar does not take place until December 2022.

Ireland were third seeds in Group A which means they will have to overcome underdog status against both Portugal and Serbia in order to qualify automatically or seal a play-off spot.

Ireland will travel to Serbia for their first qualifying game on March 24th which is followed three days later by a home game with Luxembourg. On March 30th, Ireland welcome Azerbaijan to the Aviva Stadium.

Below is the full set of fixtures as released on the official FAI Twitter page yesterday.
