LIMERICK City and County Council is hosting a series of FREE Tidy Towns related webinars in 2021 for its 9th annual Tidy Towns Seminar.
Top tips in how to succeed in the competition will be on offer for community groups, organisations, and individuals who are invited to register.
The aim is to support groups with their ongoing work in their Tidy Towns groups along with advice for their application for the 2021 national competition.
The first two webinar will focus on wildlife in your locality and pollinators. The second on the sustainability category.
Additional webinars on the Tidy Towns application and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals will take place, dates and times will be announced in the near future.

The guest speakers for the 2021 Tidy Towns webinars will all have an expertise in Tidy Towns, most will be experienced adjudicators.
- Dr Fiona Mc Gowan, Ecologist and Tidy Towns Adjudicator is the first guest speaker. Dr McGowan will focus on the wildlife in your locality
- Debbie Nesbitt will present the second webinar which will focus on sustainability. Ms Nesbitt is also a Tidy Town adjudicator along with being an expert of on sustainability
Limerick City and County Council has been advised that there will be a national Tidy Towns competition in 2021. It may be necessary for the national Tidy Towns unit to adjust some elements of the competition but there are no changes to the categories in this year’s application.
A total of 56 groups from right across Limerick took part in Tidy Towns in 2019. All groups had an increase in marks over the previous year’s competition which is down to the commitment of community groups and volunteers who give up their time to help out.
Adare was named as Limerick’s Tidiest Town, closely followed by Galbally and Ardpatrick. Adare was awarded a Silver Medal, with Bronze Medals going to Ardpatrick, Galbally, Castleconnell, Newcastle West, and Limerick City.
The Endeavour Award for Limerick went to Ballyagran, which saw the biggest percentage improvement on marks compared to the previous year.
Limerick City and County Council is also encouraging towns/villages who have not entered
recently or ever to being their Tidy Towns journey in 2021 by completing an application and getting a baseline to begin from for their community. Tidy Towns works well as a community development tool and it is never too early or too late to start your town on its Tidy Town adventures.
Sinead McDonnell, Environmental Awareness Officer with Limerick City and County Council said: “Limerick City and County Council organises these seminars to assist groups with their year round work within their own communities via Tidy Towns.
“Our speakers will be giving invaluable insights and advice on applying for Tidy Towns in 2021. If you are involved in Tidy Towns this webinar series is must.”
