Gardai to speak to Co Limerick man as part of investigations into discovery of woman’s body in burning car

GARDAÍ are to speak to a Co Limerick man as part of their investigations into the suspicious death of a North Cork woman, whose body was discovered in a burning car yesterday.
The woman’s body was discovered by an armed Garda unit in the Doneraile area around 4.30pm Thursday, after gardai received a report that a car was on fire in the area.
Garda sources said that despite an initial report that shots had been fired, the garda investigation team were satisfied that no firearms were involved.
A man reported as being from the Ardpatrick area of Co Limerick, who was found by gardai shortly afterwards struggling in a river in the vicinity of where the woman’s body was found, was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment for hypothermia and minor injuries.
Gardaí are today hoping to be able to speak to the man who is aged in his 60s, to establish if he can help them with their enquiries.
Gardai believe the deceased is a 72-year old mother of three, who worked as a cook with a sheltered housing group in Mallow.
A Garda spokesman told the Limerick Post: “At around 4.30pm Gardaí were alerted to a car that was on fire in the Doneraile area on Co. Cork. Gardaí discovered a body, gender and aged unknown, inside a car that was on fire.”
“A search of the area was carried out and a man, age also unknown, was rescued by Gardaí from a nearby river. This man is currently receiving medical attention in Cork University Hospital.“
The scene is preserved and a technical examination is to be carried out by the Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist has been asked to conduct a post mortem and, the results of which, will determine the course of the Garda investigation.
“Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Doneraile area between 3pm and 5pm, particular anyone with mobile phone footage or dashcam footage, to contact Fermoy Garda Station on 025-82100 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111,” the spokesman added.
Assistant state pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster was due to examine the woman’s body and scene today.
