March 2

On this day seven years ago, the Limerick footballers fell to Roscommon in Division 3 of the League. Twelve months previously, they would defeat Waterford in Division 4 of the NFL.

2014

A blistering first half display from Roscommon condemned Limerick to a 1-21 to 0-13 defeat in the 3rd Round of the League.

Roscommon ran riot in the opening half and took the lead inside the first 30 seconds. By the time Diarmud Murtagh hit the net after a half an hour, Roscommon were cruising at 1-14 to 0-3.

The Connacht side continued where they left off grabbing the first four scores of the second period.

Limerick eventually mustered some sort of resistance as they kicked over six successive scores. Those points would come from John Riordan, Ian Corbett, Seánie Buckley, Stephen Lucey and Seamus O’Carroll (45).

Roscommon would find the last two scores of the game to round off a near perfect display.

2013

Limerick moved to the summit of the Division 4 table with a 0-8 to 0-6 win over Waterford.

In a cautious opening between the top two in the Division, Limerick had the better off the first half as they took a 0-4 to 0-2 lead into the dressing rooms.

Maurice Horan’s side held Waterford scoreless for the first 26 minutes but the hosts did kick eight wides.

The second half developed into a scoring contest between Ian Ryan and Gary Hurney as they finished with 0-4 and 0-5 respectively.

However, Ryan’s supporting cast was that more clinical and Seanie Buckley would grab the crucial score late on to give Limerick a cushion to protect.

Waterford did have a final attack but were filtered out by a resolute Limerick rearguard as they held on for a third successive win.
