31 year-old O’Mahony has been on the losing end of many clashes against Leo Cullen’s blues.

Saturday was Munster’s first time beating Leinster since 2018 and although it was against a weakened side, the Ireland international understandably took great pleasure from the result.

Despite Munster’s exceptional league season and European Cup victories against Clermont and Harlequins, there have been questions asked of Johann Van Graan’s project in recent weeks.

The manner of defeat against Leinster in the Guinness Pro14 final disheartened many supporters but O’Mahony insists that there has always been massive belief throughout the squad and still is.

“It showed it was a massive test for us and it took one of our probably better performances of the year to get the result, so it was very important,” said the Corkman.

“Look, we have huge belief in the squad, we have huge belief in the group we are building and players have incredible belief in our coaching staff.

“This team has won 16 out of 20 games in the Pro14, you know what I mean, that isn’t hugely documented I know.

“I know we haven’t beaten Leinster in a while, but we win a lot of games. We have massive belief in our club and what we do and that was another big step forward for us, but there is huge belief there.”
