WATCH: Billy Lee not getting ‘carried away’ with League win over Tipp

BILLY Lee and the Limerick footballers got off to the perfect start in their return to life in Division 3 as they beat Tipperary 1-13 to 0-14 in the LIT Gaelic Grounds.

The win over the reigning Munster champions will come as a relief to Lee and co who were the width of the post away from beating Tipp in the provincial semi-final in their last competitive outing.

However, the Newcastle West native says he and his side will not be getting carried away with the two point win.

“I’m delighted. It was hard fought and could have gone either way. Only two points in it and a greasy ball. Hopefully it was a decent spectacle in the conditions because it was really tough for the players out there. The first 20 minutes weren’t good enough at all and it was welcome to Division 3 Football for Limerick.

“I was happy with the way they closed it out. Last year, I said it to ye, it is what it is, I wasn’t put out by it. Just because Tipp won Munster doesn’t mean we would have. So maybe if we did win, Tipp would have come today with an extra bite that we had. It swings in roundabouts and what you can say is that we are two evenly matched teams. They were missing players so lets not get carried away.”

Danny Neville’s goal early in the second half proved crucial for Lee’s side who now face away trips to Offaly and Wicklow in successive weeks.

“We have two tough away games to come so one swallow doesn’t make a summer. We have to keep our feet firmly on the ground. We put a lot of emphasis on winning home games and that was a big joy for us against a serious football team.

“It’s hard work really, that’s it.”
