Thunder and lighting for Limerick following scorching heatwave

AFTER a prolonged heatwave on Shannonside, the national weather service has issued a warning for a rain and thunderstorm coming into effect this Monday evening.

Met Éireann announced a status yellow rain and thunder storm to come into effect in Limerick this Monday evening from 7pm, remaining in place until 7am tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.

The weather service warned of lightning damage, difficult travel conditions, and surface water flooding in the wake of the rain and thunderstorm warning.

Other counties included in the status warning are Clare, Kerry, and Galway.

A separate warning of possible thunderstorms and lightning damage has been issued for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, and Wicklow, currently in effect and ending at 4pm today.

Met Éireann describes a status yellow warning as “not unusual weather” with potential for “localised danger”, not “does not pose a threat to the general population”.

Rain during status yellow warnings can range from around 30mm to 50mm in a 24-hour period.
