The 36 year-old former Munster fullback represented her country 57 times and played a starring role in the 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup.

Briggs was part of the first Ireland team to ever beat New Zealand when her two conversions, a penalty kick and try-assist helped Ireland to a historic 17-14 victory.

During her playing career, Briggs won two Six Nations Championships, a Grand Slam and five Interpro series titles. The Waterford woman was also named Irish Rugby Writer’s Women’s Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014.

Her AIL club UL Bohemians have been giants of the women’s game for years now and the addition of Briggs is sure to help the Annacotty club continue their great work.

“We’re thrilled that Niamh has accepted our offer to become Head Coach. Niamh is a household name in Irish sport, she has one of the best rugby brains around, and we are very fortunate to have her overseeing the next generation of players through the club”, said UL Bohemian RFC Director of Rugby Cathal Sheridan.

“Obviously her experience on and off the pitch at the pinnacle of Irish rugby over the last decade speaks for itself, but the most exciting part for us is her vision on where she wants to bring us to in the next few years.”

UL Bohemians last week announced their star-studded U20s coaching team including former Munster backs coach Brian Walsh, Roscrea Senior Cup coach Brian Swindlehurst, Christy Neilan and head coach Olan Daly. Munster stalwarts BJ Botha, Tommy O’Donnell, Cathal Sheridan and George Murray are set to continue as coaches of the Senior Team.
