The Irish Chamber Orchestra coming to UCH

THE Irish Chamber Orchestra performs the first live concert of 2021 at University Concert Hall, Limerick on Wednesday 23 June at 2.00 pm.

This concert is one of a series of pilot events being rolled out nationally by Minister Catherine Martin T.D.  to bring live music and culture back to our audiences.

“We are reopening our stages, concerts, sports, our country. We are back to doing what we love, what makes us Irish, connecting with people as we move together towards recovery.”

ICO CEO Gerard Keenan said “we are so delighted to welcome back our audience to University Concert Hall and to be able to share the sheer joy of some fabulous tango music with them.

“We hope that our patrons will want to come back and experience live music after all this time.  We have maintained a strong output of streamed concerts throughout lockdown but there is nothing like the sound of live performance and more importantly, the reaction of the audience.  We have really missed that.”

“We are delighted that live events with audiences are part of our lives once again,” said Arts Council Director Maureen Kennelly. “This event is an important moment in our shared cultural lives and is an indication of the central part the arts will play in our country’s recovery from the pandemic.”

Katherine Hunka and the ICO have a huge affinity with the music of Astor Piazzolla.  Accordionist Dermot Dunne adds a splash of colour to this very special performance of MOLIQUE AND PIAZZOLLA.

The fabulous Escualo by Piazzolla is based on a simple, yet catchy riff with some very virtuosic violin solos. Contrabajissimo showcases Piazzolla’s ability to weave western classical and tango music seamlessly.

Adios Nonino, perhaps Piazzolla’s best-known work, was composed on the death of his father. The piece has two contrasting themes-one urgent and restless, the other slow and heartfelt, tinged with a Latin passion while Milonga del Angel is one of the most lyrical pieces ever written. Finally, the concerto by Molique is another gem.

Don’t miss this feast of tango music, MOLIQUE & PIAZZOLLA, live in Limerick on Wednesday 23 June @ 2 pm. Tickets from www.uch.ie.  For those who would prefer to stay on their sofas, MOLIQUE & PIAZZOLLA will also stream live from NCH, Dublin @ 8pm, Thursday 24 June and tickets are available www.nch.ie
