Ben Healy scoops John McCarthy award for Academy Player of the Year

BEN Healy has received the John McCarthy award for Greencore Munster Rugby Academy player of the year.

The award has come following an impressive season in the red jersey. With the young fly-half showing glimpses of brilliance throughout the campaign.

The number 10 from Tipperary who went to Glenstal Abbey has taken huge strides and continues to improve in the Munster jersey. The game that caught the eye of many so early in his young career was his stellar performance against Welsh outfit Scarlets with an impressive penalty kick from 50-metres to seal a hard fought victory in the Guinness PRO14.

The 21 year old who had previously captained Glenstal to their first Munster Schools Rugby Senior Cup in 2018 has since heavily impressed for the province and has seen his efforts rewarded.

The first game of Healy’s career at senior level saw him put up 11 points against Edinburgh in 2019, soon after this the young Irishman would see his name in the squad for his first European debut against Ospreys in 2020 in a Champions Cup pool 4 fixture.

Healy has also taken the field for the Ireland under-20s on several occasions winning the Six Nations under-20s championship in style with a grand slam effort. With 7 starts under his belt this season the future looks bright with no signs of slowing any time soon , Healy’s creativity and long range of kicking is a huge asset to any side.

Alongside this award , further Munster Rugby Awards will be announced later today for the 2020/21 season, with more players gaining recognition for their efforts throughout the season in the jersey of Munster.
