Bus Éireann to reinstate full services on Galway-Limerick Expressway service

Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe.

FIANNA Fáil TD for Clare Cathal Crowe has welcomed the confirmation by Bus Éireann that it is to reinstate a full service on its Galway-Limerick Expressway Route 51 service, which takes in much of Co. Clare.

The decision to temporarily reduce the late evening service was taken in May but following a review of the suspension, it has been decided that due to demand, it will be reinstated from tomorrow, June 25th.

Limerick bus fares to drop

“I’m delighted to see this key public service being restored,” said Deputy Crowe.

“Its scaling back in May was illogical at a time when intercounty travel was again possible and people were again requiring a public transport network to criss-cross the country.

“Although many might consider this to be a service that stops at large towns and cities, it also stops in many small villages across Clare on its way between Galway and Limerick,

“Since the withdrawal of the service, many people have contacted by office asking for me to intervene on their behalf and I did speak with the CEO of the National Transport Authority Ann Graham on a number of occasions.

“One of the most compelling arguments I heard came from students of GMIT who told me that, because of the high rental costs for student accommodation, many of them have opted to commute daily from Co. Clare to the college’s Galway campus.

“The withdrawal of this service made it very difficult for them to get home after late lectures or labs and so on.

“I’m glad to see that common sense has prevailed here but I still maintain this service never should have been scaled back.”
