WATCH: Pat Ryan looks ahead to championship opener against Wexford

PAT Ryan’s Limerick camogie side will face Wexford in the opening round of the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship in Newcastle West this Saturday at 2.30pm.

The Shannonsiders lost their last game against Cork in the Munster senior Camogie Championship Final, losing 4-20 to 2-9 a fortnight ago.

Limerick will look to bounce back against a strong Wexford side and will want to get their campaign started off with a win to carry the momentum they had for most of the Munster Championship.

Ahead of Saturdays tie Limerick manager Pat Ryan discussed what he expects and what his team will be required to do in order to achieve victory as he stated:

“The championship is going to be a dog fight. We’re expecting a massive challenge from Wexford. Everyone rises their game for championship”.

The Treaty side had two weeks off to prepare for the clash, the first time throughout the year they’ve had such time to rest and prepare for an upcoming game as Ryan said,

“We had a very busy schedule there since 20th of April, we were out every weekend so it’s the first two week period that we hadn’t matches”.

Following the heavy 17 point defeat to the Rebels in the Munster final, their last game, Ryan said his team are hungry to prove themselves once again.

And with such a tight schedule of games coming thick and fast he will have to utilise his entire squad and allow for more minutes for players from the bench as he added:

“We thought too much about cork, we need to maybe focus on ourselves. They want success… every single player has to perform on the day, you can’t have maybe three or four players turning up, it’s going to take maybe 15 players plus a few subs Saturday to get over the line”.

We’ll have to use our bench a bit more… A lot of those players that came on against Cork proved that their hungry”.

Pat Ryan was speaking to Jack Neville, watch the interview in full below.
