Shane Duggan Signs For Fairview Rangers

FORMER Cork City, Limerick FC and Waterford FC player Shane Duggan has signed for local Limerick District League club Fairview Rangers. It is a huge coup for the current FAI Junior Cup champions and will create a huge buzz with just three days before the beginning of the 2021/22 season.

Duggan comes back to his boyhood club with huge pedigree. He has won two Airtricity League First Division titles with both Cork City in 2010 and Limerick FC in 2016 and was a driving force in Limerick FC’s midfield between 2013 and 2018, captaining the club under Stuart Taylor, Martin Russell, Neil McDonald and Tommy Barrett.

It is a surprising move considering the 32-year old was plying his trade at full-time outfit Galway United under the stewardship of John Caulfield, a man who once desperately tried to bring Duggan to Cork in 2016. Despite being named last season’s club player of the year as the Tribesmen missed out on promotion via the play-offs.

Duggan partnered Conor McCormack in midfield for the opening round of fixtures but was recently dropped to the substitutes bench and in recent weeks has not been named in Galway’s match day squads. Duggan was linked with a move to Treaty but the experienced midfielder returns to the club where he played his schoolboy football before moving to Plymouth Argyle at the age of 16.
