THE Poc Fada competition will return for 2021 after the event was cancelled last year.
2018 All-Ireland winner Colin Ryan and Irish No.1 Handballer Martina McMahon will represent Limerick in the competition.
This year’s event will be held in the Cooley Mountains in Louth on September 25th once again.
Ryan finished fourth in the same venue in 2019, finishing four shots shy of eventual winner Offaly’s Cillian Kiely. It was Kiely’s second consecutive title.
Ryan will be up against a field of 11 which includes Kiely and Kilkenny goalkeeper Eoin Murphy.
Five Limerick men have won the title, including the inaugural winner Vincent Godfrey in 1961. Albert Shanahan was the last Limerick man to succeed in the event, winning his second title in 2005.
McMahon, who has become the undisputed queen of handball in the country is selected for the camogie event after winning the Munster poc fada in 2013.
McMahon capped off a flawless 2020 as she was named as Munster Handballer of the Year. She was also nominated for the Irish Times Sportswoman of the Year after claiming her third successive All-Ireland 60×30 Softball title last October.
She will be up against eight others in the competition.
