Water supply returns as burst water main repaired in Corbally

WATER supply is returning to homes and businesses in Corbally as Irish Water crews have successfully repaired a burst water main.

Irish Water, working in partnership with Clare County Council, carried out repairs following a burst to a large water main impacting customers in Corbally, Knockballynameath, Carraig Midhe, Westbury and surrounding areas.

A spokesperson for Irish Water said: “Repairs were complex due to the location of the burst and the presence of other services over the watermain which had to be carefully excavated.

“Dedicated water service crews worked as quickly and as safely as possible throughout the day to repair the burst and restore water to impacted customers. Normal water supply is retuning, however, it typically takes two to three hours following repairs for full supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage.

“To support impacted customers, an alternative water supply continues to be in place and IBCs with clean drinking water is available at a number of locations in Carraig Midhe and Westbury until full supply is restored to all. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tankers and to boil the water before consumption as a precautionary measure. Irish Water would also like to remind the public to adhere to
public health advice in relation to social distancing and mask wearing when collecting water from the tankers.”

To ensure the safety of the public and crews, the road between Athlunkard Bridge and Larkins Cross will remain closed until road reinstatement works are completed.

Pat Britton from Irish Water commented: “Dedicated crews successfully carried out the repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimise disruption to the area and restore water to all customers. We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate your patience as we worked to return the water supply as quickly and as safely as possible.”
