THE waiting time for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in the Mid West has doubled in the last two years.

That’s according to Sinn Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan, who was responding to figures from the HSE that revealed the numbers of young people waiting for access to critical, community-based mental health services have not dropped below 2,500 over the past five years.

“Waiting lists to access community healthcare in this country have gone from bad to worse, particularly here in the Mid West. At the end of 2019 there were 188 children and teens waiting in the Mid West. By the third quarter of 2021 this figure had nearly doubled in two years to 364. These waiting periods are simply unacceptable,” Deputy Quinlivan said.
