GAA Moments of the Year | Adam English announces himself with blistering goal against the Banner

As 2021 draws to a close, Jack Neville looks back on some of the most memorable GAA moments of the year.

While the year proved largely forgettable for most as the pandemic continued to grip the world, for the fans of Limerick GAA, there was a number of incredible moments throughout 2021 that will live long in the memory

And ahead of the new year, look back at some of the most memorable.

Limerick GAA’s Moments of the Year.

Today, Adam English’s magical effort for the U20s in July is remembered.

While a few days previously Kyle Hayes was blitzing the Tipperary defence, Adam English followed suit for the Limerick U20s side who defeated the Banner to book their place in the Munster final.

English was on fire for Diarmuid Mullins men a couple of months removed from captaining the minors to Munster glory helping Limerick into a commanding lead at the Gaelic Grounds.

Six from play from the Doon starlet had Limerick nine clear with as many minutes to go but English saved his best for last.

Collecting the ball over his shoulder just outside the 45′, English sold his man with a brilliantly executed dummy. Such was the forwards form, the Clare man had no option but the attempt the block.

With his man in the rearview, English set his sight on goal, despite standing outside the 45. He was quickly closed down by the Banner corner back who was powerless to stop him, as English shrugged him to the floor without ever breaking stride.

21 yards from goal, English sent an arrow past the despairing Clare keeper to finish the game as a contest.

And while the Limerick faithful were already well aware of his talent at that stage, English truly announced himself to the national scene with the goal.

0-16 on his senior debut and 1-6 in the Premier U21 final later in the year again showed why he is one of the most highly talked about prospects in Ireland.
