NEWLY appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the RTE Concert Orchestra, Stephen Bell, will be performing his first concerts in Galway and Limerick.

The concerts will be a 90th birthday celebration of John Williams in Leisureland, Galway, 10 February and 11 February at the University Concert Hall in Limerick.

The Orchestra will be playing classic music from movies that Williams worked on, like Star Wars, E.T., Harry Potter and much more. Stephen Bell will be conductor at the event.

Stephen has been critically acclaimed as a conductor and horn player. He studied under renowned conductor Norman Del Mar, and he had a role as Principal Horn with the BBC Concert Orchestra until he retired from that role in 2015.

One of his big career highlights is his work with legendary American composer John Williams. He worked with Williams on two Star Wars movies, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of The Sith. He played the French Horn as a member of the orchestra when recording the soundtracks for these two movies.

Bell talked about his new role in the RTE Concert Orchestra following the announcement and what he brings to the table. “Having spent over 30 years as a principal player in a broadcasting orchestra in the UK, I feel I bring a unique insight into this new role as Principal Guest Conductor, especially in terms of the huge variety of repertoire and musical styles the RTÉ Concert Orchestra are required to play.

“Their versatility and expertise is infectious, and I can’t wait to re-engage with the loyal and knowledgeable audiences at the National Concert Hall and further afield in the coming months and years;” he said.
