Second break-in at County Limerick Church in two months

Church of the Immaculate Conception, Newcastle West

THE Church of the Immaculate Conception in Newcastle West has been broken into for the second time this year.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the burglary which took place between 8pm last Saturday and 8am on Sunday.

“The criminals damaged five candle stands that have money collection boxes attached. The value of the criminal damage caused could run to €2,000,” Limerick Garda Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Ber Leetch explained.

“The first time was in January and a man was questioned in relation to that. No cash is kept in any church overnight. These collection boxes are emptied regularly throughout the day but the damage caused can be very expensive to repair.”
