Report | Lacklustre Limerick made to pay against Rebels

A THIRD successive league defeat was Limerickโ€™s lot today.

Cork avenged the defeat in last years all Ireland final with a comprehensive 2-19 to 1-13 win in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Kielyโ€™s men were fourteen adrift at the half with the Rebels taking advantageย of some uncharacteristic play.

David Reidy and Pat Horgan exchanged frees to open the encounter.

Reidy and Horgan added to their accounts as Limerick led 0-3 to 0-2 after six minutes.

But by the time Limerick next troubled the scoreboard from Darragh Oโ€™Donovan, Cork were eight clear.

In that time, Horgan clipped over four placed balls while Shane Kingston hit the net.

Limerick hit back through Reidy but Kingston struck for his second goal on 33 minutes, as the Rebels went 2-13 to 0-5 in front.

Kingston was send off moments later for a poor tackle on Sean Finn but Limerickโ€™s man advantage didnโ€™t last long with Seamus Flanagan also sent off shortly after.

There was little respite in the second half from Limerick who introduced Will Oโ€™Donoghue, Diarmuid Byrnes and Aaron Gillane at half time.

Lynch and Oโ€™Neill had successive scores within five minutes of the restart but Cork hit back with theee of their own.

Oโ€™Neill hit the net on 53 to make it an eleven point game but Limerick couldnโ€™t build on the score as the game petered out.
