Man charged over Limerick City slash hook attack

A 50-year-old Limerick man has been charged in connection with a slash hook attack in Limerick City in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mark Connery of Lenihan Avenue, Prospect appeared before Limerick District Court today and was charged in relation to an alleged assault at a house at Ballinacurra Weston at around 3am on Sunday, March 6.

The charge against Mr Connery alleged that on March 6, at Ballyclough Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, he had a “slash hook which had a blade on which was sharply pointed”.

The charge is contrary to Section 9 (1) and (7) of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990.

Mr Connery was granted bail on a number of conditions including that he stay away from the injured party and any witnesses; that he not apply for travel documents; and that he be available at all times to Gardaí on a charged and in-credit mobile phone.

Judge Patricia Harney remanded him on bail to appear before Limerick District Court on July 6 for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
