Transport Minister considering Limerick rail link to Shannon

Transport Minister Eamon Ryan

TRANSPORT Minister Eamon Ryan is giving serious consideration to establishing a rail link between Limerick and Shannon Airport.

That’s according to Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Hildegarde Naughton, who was at the airport last Thursday for a celebration of the return of transatlantic flights.

Asked by the Limerick Post whether a rail link for the international airport is in sight, she said that Minister Ryan “is conducting an all-Ireland rail review, looking at the rail requirements for the island of Ireland and that will be published shortly”.

“What we want to do is ensure that Shannon Airport is connected, in relation to business, local hubs and residential areas.

“It is critically important that we have access to the airport and the region and that it is allowed to thrive,” Minister Naughton added.
