Limerick Garda warning of laptop theft

LIMERICK people going on holidays or taking off for the bank holiday weekend are being warned to be extra vigilant with their laptops.

Garda John Finnerty of the Limerick Garda Crime Prevention Unit said that it only takes a moment of distraction for a thief to take a laptop or tablet device.

“Along with cash, laptops are the most common items taken in burglaries and from cars. The cost of replacing the data on the device can sometimes be more than replacing the hardware itself,” he said.

Tips to keep a laptop safe include never leaving it on show, carrying it in something less obvious than a laptop case and locking it with a security cable to an immovable object.
