Tributes paid to former Limerick Council Chairman

TRIBUTES have been paid to former Limerick County Council Cathaoirleach Paddy Hourigan who died at his home in Annagh, Lisnagry yesterday (Saturday).

The popular Fine Gael councillor represented the Castleconnell electoral area for more than 25 years up to his retirement in 2004.

Limerick Fine Gael TD Kieran O’Donnell described the late Mr Hourigan as “a true gentleman, warm and engaging and a dedicated public representative, spanning an impressive four decades as a member of Limerick County Council.

“A people person, he was highly respected within Fine Gael, both locally and nationally and indeed was a liked by all across the entire political spectrum.

“He possessed an astute political mind and his wise counsel was sought by many over the years, including myself,” Deputy O’Donnell added.

“Paddy leaves a rich legacy of delivering for the people he represented and after his retirement from active politics he continued to be heavily involved in community activities in Murroe.

“He will be greatly missed by us all, but, above all this is a deep personal loss for his family and I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to his wife Anne; daughters Monica, Kathleen and sons James and Patrick”.

Mr Hourigan’s remains will repose at Meehan’s Funeral Home Newport tomorrow (Monday, May 9) from 6 to 8 pm. Requiem Mass at the Holy Rosary Church, Murroe on Tuesday at 11.30 am, followed by burial in Annagh Cemetery.
