The night Ed Sheeran left Limerick without his shoes

MANY Ed Sheeran fans would like to see what it might be like to walk in his shoes.

But 12-year-old Tomás McGrath can actually do that after the young lad from Kileely did some thinking out loud and asked the star for the shoes he was wearing at his Thomond Park gig last week.

“We went to the concert on Thursday and Tomás was really disappointed that he wasn’t allowed down on to the pitch because he’s too young.” his mum, Mary, told the Limerick Post.

“But the following evening, he wanted to see Ed come out after the second concert and we waited around for five hours. When he came out, everyone was calling him and he got some pictures taken with fans and spoke to people.

“But then he turned to go back to the van. People were shouting for him and he looked back. Tomás saw an opportunity and ducked under the security barrier. He ran over and Ed started talking to him.”

At the gig the evening before, Tomás’s dad, Jason bought him an Ed Sheeran top and when Ed came out, he was wearing the same top as Tomás. And when Tomás asked him for his shoes, Ed took them off there and then and gave them to the young fan.

“He left Thomond Park in his bare feet and Tomás was over the moon,” said Mary.

There’s little chance, however, of young Tomás wearing the shoes to show them off as he’s a size three, while Ed’s footwear is a massive size ten.

“He took them up to bed with him but one of the lads he trains with, Darragh Leo, his dad is a massive Ed Sheeran fan , so he kept the left trainer – Tomás is left footed – and he gave the other one to Darragh for his dad,” said Mary.

Tomás had been an Ed Sheeran fan since he was a toddler.

“Himself and his dad sang along to all Ed’s music from the time he was little. Tomás’s favourite song is Galway Girl,” Mary said.
