Limerick face off against Kerry in the final of the Munster Senior Football Championship this weekend in what will be their first provincial decider since 2010.
As Limerick football has been eclipsed in recent memory by the brilliant success of the hurling team, players such as Cillian Fahy will be happy to see a buzz around the footballers getting a share of the limelight.
Through a strong league campaign and a flawless championship so far, Fahy knew the quality of the oppositon they have faced up to this point in the competition and how it will encourage his side in Saturday’s final.
โThey were two tough games, the Clare game was very fifty fifty it looked for a while like it was running away from us, we managed to dig out the last couple of scores to get it to extra time and penalties. I donโt think there could have been two more games that could have prepared us, weโre as prepared as we can be in terms of those games.โ
Kerry will be going into the game as favourites because of ย the winning mentality they have shown in successive Munster championships. With that expectation comes the chance of Billy Leeโs side to cause a great upset and take the title.
To defeat a side like Kerry, there must be a complete team performance with each man trying as hard as the next. Fahy is under no illusion about this and he emphasised the importance of a side united.
โWeโre under no illusions, theyโre an unbelievable team. Theyโre probably favorites to go on and win an All Ireland championship, thatโs the expectation of Kerry it always has been.
โIf you were hanging your hat on recognition as a Limerick footballer youโd be long gone. Itโs about ourselves, itโs about the group and itโs about our own standards and what we want to do. Weโve taken great satisfaction out of the couple of wins weโve had, the league performances and the progress weโve made out of the group.โ
