LEARNING about Belly Dancing and Henna tattoos are part of the fun planned for teenage girls at a free gathering being held in Limerick next week.

The ‘Young Beoirs Gathering’ is for Beoirs – the Traveller Cant word for women – from every walk of life to try out new experiences.

On Saturday June 11 from 1pm–3pm, the local Creative Youth Partnership, and Cruinniú na Óg invites teenage girls to join a special event where they can enjoy or try out photography, dance, spoken word, film-making, makeup, music or food sharing.

“The belly dancing idea came from a group of Traveller girls in Abbeyfeale,” organiser Monica Spencer told the Limerick Post. “All the young girls we speak to are mad into learning about makeup, but when we asked the girls in Abbeyfeale, they immediately said belly-dancing and they also wanted Henna tattooing, which we had at a previous gathering. They loved it.”

Young Beoirs Gathering is a free event and an opportunity for teenage girls to come together to share their interests. The event is presented by Local Creative Youth Partnership and takes place at the Dance Limerick Church on John’s Square.
