DENISE Chaila made good on her promise in her 2020 track ‘Holy Grail’ and owned the stage at the iconic festival, picking up positive reviews and a prime time TV slot on BBC 2’s festival coverage performing her track ‘Anseo’ to an audience of millions, in the build up to a headline set from Billie Eilish.
Denise tweeted this week after the festival, “Wrote a song in 2019. Someone got in my head negatively and I was writing “Holy Grail” and I randomly said “I’ll see you from the stage at Glastonbury.”
“On Friday I played Glasto on the @bbcintroducing stage. Someone really called the BBC loool.”
Laura Snapes (The Guardian) was at Denise’s show on the BBC Introducing Stage last Friday and reported, “She’s pure charisma, all withering looks at weak men, playful braggadocio and endearing gratitude to be here.”
“She leaves us in no uncertain terms about who she is: fiercely proud of her hometown. Her sound is thick and bassy, a catalyst for her exuberant delivery, which brings to mind Stormzy at his most playful. Absolutely no one in the boisterous, utterly charmed crowd is left standing on ceremony.”
Denise Chaila will be Live at King John’s Castle on Saturday August 20.
