LIMERICK School of Music has announced that Grammy and Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Rhiannon Giddens will headline its 3rd Annual Gala Concert on Thursday May 22, in what is set to be a landmark evening at St. Mary’s Cathedral.

The concert, which begins at 8.00pm, will also feature works by Mozart, Chopin, and Vaughan Williams, alongside a performance of the Linen and Lace Flute Concerto by celebrated LSOM alumnus Bill Whelan, best known internationally as the composer of Riverdance. Soloists and a full orchestra drawn from the school’s staff and past pupils will perform on the night.

Proceedings will be held in aid of the LSOM Alumni and Friends Fund, which supports access to music education for students across Limerick and the wider region. Each ticket includes a sparkling prosecco and canapé reception, lending the evening an added air of occasion.

Rhiannon Giddens is one of the most acclaimed and versatile musicians working today, recognised for her wide-ranging work spanning folk, classical, and American roots traditions.

Her appearance at St. Mary’s Cathedral — one of Limerick’s most atmospheric and historic venues — promises to make this year’s gala the most ambitious in the school’s short history of staging the annual event.
