LIMERICK Comhairle na nÓg will host a youth conference on Thursday when young people from 13 to 17 years of age will have an opportunity to voice their opinions on issues that are important to them.

The conference, which will be officially opened by Mayor Francis Foley, will be held in Istabraq Hall at the Limerick City and County Council offices, Merchant’s Quay from 9:45am to 2:30pm

The event will include several interactive workshops and is supported by Limerick Youth Service (LYS) and Limerick City and County Council.

Established as a youth council to advocate for young people, Limerick Comhairle na nÓg encourages them to participate in the development of polices that are relevant to them. It also allows them to influence government policy at a local and national level.

Comhairle members have addressed issues such as gender equality, youth homelessness, living in the Direct Provision system, cyberbullying and the teaching of sexual education in the secondary schools.
