Limerick Wetlands management plan nearing completion

The Westfield Wetlands

THE LIMERICK City Westfield Wetlands Management Plan is currently undergoing final drafting and is expected to be presented to councillors next spring.

Labour Party councillor Conor Sheehan asked at last week’s Metropolitan District meeting for an indicative timeline for implementing the measures outlined in the plan.

He was told by Director of Service Nuala Gallagher that an update on progress will be given to the Climate Action, Biodiversity, and Environment SPC (Strategic Policy Committee) in December.

“The masterplan is designed as a guidance document for the Council with regard to best practice, maintenance and possible future developments of the wetlands.

“It will contain suggestion of possible enhancement works and guidance on the sources of funding which may be available to the Council to undertake works,” Ms Gallagher explained.
