5,843 social housing applicants on Limerick Council waiting list

THE total number of qualified social housing applicants on Limerick City and County Council’s waiting list was 5,843 as of the end of February.

This was revealed in a response to a question from Independent councillor Jerome Scanlan at this Monday’s monthly meeting of Limerick City and County Council.

Senior Executive Officer for the local authority’s Housing Support Services, Mary Hayes, explained that the figure of 5,843 includes those currently in HAP/RAS accommodation and those on the Council’s transfer list.

The number of qualified social housing applicants for Limerick City and County Council net of HAP/RAS and Council Transfers is 2,301.

“All applicants for social housing support can select a maximum number of three areas of choice and make their selection on the housing application form. The areas of choice are listed on the application form under the relevant Municipal District/ Metropolitan District,” Ms Hayes told council members.

Cllr Scanlan had asked for a breakdown for the number of people qualified for housing within each Municipal District.

He was informed that 112 applicants selected Adare/Rathkeale area, 144 selected the Cappamore/Kilmallock, and 150 selected Newcastle West.
