MUSIC Generation celebrates its tenth anniversary with an exciting event in Limerick featuring over 40 acts performing across all the venues within Dolans on Dock Road.
MGLC 10 happening on Sunday May 21 will be four stages, six hours of music celebrating ten years of Music Generation Limerick City.
Over the ten years the Music Generation team has included a wide range of Limerick talent, including Denise Chaila, Godknows Jonas, Murli Boevi, MynameisJohn, Naïve Ted, Kira, Abe Soare, Sean O’Meara, Michelle Grimes, JaYne and members of bands including Hermitage Green, Leading Armies, Toucan, Windings, Protobaby and many more.
Many of these musicians will be part of the line-up on May 21.
A limited number of tickets are available from Dolans, at a special cost of €12 for 18+, €8 for teenagers.
Since MGLC launched in 2013 over five million euro has been invested in providing young people in Limerick with access to creative music making opportunities. This has impacted over 20,000 young people through programmes that include –
· The largest combined songwriting programme in the country, involving over 2,000 national school children each year.
· A secondary school programme that provides young people with key skills in music tech, composition, creativity and self-expression.
· A community programme that works in partnership with a range of organisations in the fields of youth work, healthcare community development and social justice bringing tailored programmes to many of society’s most vulnerable members.
Perhaps the best known programme is Limerick Voices – a open to all Saturday teen programme that has helped transform countless young lives, and laid the ground for Limerick’s thriving youth music scene. Limerick artists such as Powpig, Strange Boy, Willzee, 50 Foot Woman, Dylan Flynn and the Dead Poets, Hazey and many more started out in this mentoring programme.
Perhaps the most challenging time for the programme within the ten years was during the pandemic.
The programme adapted its live model and created over 50 hours of engaging, original multimedia content that was broadcast directly into schools and homes.
Headlining is Denise Chaila with many alumni of MGLC filling the bill such as Abe Soare, Brad Pitt Light Orchestra, Dylan Flynn and the Dead Poets, JaYne, King Pallas, Kira, Kirichenko, Laura Duff, Michelle Grimes, Naïve Ted, Pity of the Sea and Sean O’Meara.
Also the MGLC rap allstars bring together Godknows, Murli, Strange Boy, Hazey, Willzee, Citrus, Krome, Big Man Davey, Harry Kelly, MCB, Nathan Keane and Size.
