Quasi are among the most original and innovative indie rock bands of the past few decades

Portland’s very own indie rock royalty, Quasi, formed in 1993, with a unique sound that blends the best of punk, rock, and pop influences.
The dynamic duo, Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss, set the scene on fire with their blend of pop and punk delivered with raw, energetic and emotionally charged performances
With Coomes commanding lead vocal duties and the use of keyboard, guitar, and drums, Quasi’s sound is truly one-of-a-kind.
Their debut album, “Early Recordings,” was unleashed on the world in 1996, followed by a string of critically acclaimed albums that solidified their place in the indie rock pantheon. From “Featuring Birds” (1998) to “The Sword of God” (2001) and “American Gong” (2010), Quasi has always maintained their commitment to producing introspective lyrics that explore the complexities of love, loss, and the struggles of everyday life, with a signature wry sense of humour.
Despite never quite cracking the mainstream market, Quasi has amassed a cult following over the years, inspiring countless indie rock musicians in the process. The band took a hiatus in 2018, with Weiss opting to focus on other projects.
Quasi released Breaking the Balls of History, their new Sub Pop debut worldwide in February. The twelve-track effort was produced by the duo and John Goodmanson (Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, Unwound, Treepeople, Team Dresch) at Rob Lang Studios in Seattle, engineered and mixed by Goodmanson, and mastered by Bill Skibbe at Third Man Mastering.
Quasi’s Breaking the Balls of History features the highlights “Doomscrollers,” “Nowheresville,” “Gravity,” and “Queen of Ears,”
Their legacy as one of the most original and innovative indie rock bands of the past few decades lives on.
